University of the Third Age
University of the Third Age
U3A Atlantic Seaboard is a learning and social co-operative primarily for senior citizens from all walks of life. No qualifications are required and none are given.
Our objective is to be a university in the original sense of the word. An egalitarian community of teachers and learners, sharing interests and enthusiasms. There is a very real need for accessible and stimulating educational opportunities at a stage in life when people can expect to have more free time for self- development and much needed social contact.
U3As are democratic, self-funded, self-managed non-profit organisations, open to people who wish to exercise their minds by learning and helping others to learn through participating in courses, discussions and activity groups covering a wide range of subjects. Activities are held during the daytime on weekdays which suits retired people.
Members may participate in any of the courses and activities run by U3A Atlantic Seaboard and any other U3A in South Africa. Details of these may be found on our website and are also sent by email to our members. The cost to attend a course is nominal. Mike Bruton
Paradoxical People
Talk on 9 October 2025
Mike Brutons entertaining talk about US - Homo Sapiens, the species that shows a greater range of cultural differences than any other animal. We are special due to our large, complex brains, our language, and our capacity for abstract reasoning and symbolic thought. These traits have allowed us to thrive, adapt to a wide range of environments, create complex societies, and become the most numerous large animals ever.
